EVERYTHING is a gift!

everything is a gift2

Everything that has happened to you so far in life has happened FOR you.  It is the combination of every single event and every single person you have met so far in life that has made you into the person you are today.  You may not realize it in the moment, and it may take a very long time to find the “good” in some situations, but trust that everything that happens is for a reason — to help you grow and become the person you were meant to be.  Learn to embrace each experience and situation that happens to you and view it as a gift to you and the world.

This is THE mantra that gets me through the tougher days in life.  When something unfortunate happens in my life that is out of my control, I remind myself that it is a gift.  And I truly DO believe it.  Some of my most difficult situations have turned out to be my greatest blessings.

Eventually, when we look back on our lives, we will be able to understand the gift in each situation, no matter how unfortunate it may have seemed in the moment.

Try it now.  Identify one event in your life that seemed unfortunate when it happened, but it turned out to be a blessing.

The next time something unfortunate happens that is out of your control, gently remind yourself that it is happening for a good reason and is in fact a gift. 🙂

The Gift of Creativity

creativity julia cameron

I love, love, LOVE this quote from Julia Cameron!  It reminds me that all of my interests and talents are a gift, and I should make more time for them.  They were given to me to help make the world a better place, and the greatest contribution I can make to the world is using the gifts and talents that were given to me.

In Julia Cameron’s book, The Artists Way, she writes about the connection between creativity and spirituality.  It is a wonderful book and I highly recommend it to anyone who would like to make more time for their creative self. 🙂

I believe that God is the true creator of all works of art (photography, music, books, dance, painting, etc.).  When we allow ourselves the freedom to let our inner artist flow through us, there we discover our authentic self.  When we nurture our creativity, God works through us and it may seem the works are created effortlessly.  Using our creativity provides us with a sense of peace, love, joy, and fulfillment, and it is the way to authenticity.  We are all born with creative talents…we just need to spend more time discovering ourselves to unleash that talented artist within us.  So, take some time today and go create something!  You’ll be glad you did. 🙂

Visual Quote: Thankful People are Happy

Happy Wednesday!

If you choose to be grateful, then you choose to be happy!  As I’ve often said, the attitude of gratitude will always bring happiness.  May you appreciate and enjoy the blessings surrounding you today, tomorrow, and always!

To those who celebrate Thanksgiving, I wish you a wonderful holiday filled with love, laughter, delicious food, and an abundance of gratitude! 🙂

The “Thank You” Game

Note:  I originally posted this last year, but it is such a fun and rewarding game, I thought it was deserving of another post this year.  I hope you will play along! 🙂

feeling gratitude

One of the books that has had the greatest influence on my life so far is the book “Life Makeovers” by Cheryl Richardson.  This book is broken up into 52 weeks, and each week she focuses on a specific topic and gives advice and tips on ways to improve your life in that area. (Find out more about the book and how it has changed my life here.)

I have followed along with this book each week for the past 7 years, and my favorite piece of advice in the book comes from this week before Thanksgiving, Week 47.  The title of Week 47 is called The “Thank You” Game.  Cheryl suggests thanking one person a day for the next week.  It can be a teacher, bus driver, librarian, friend, spouse, child, a parent, postal worker, doctor, etc.  It can be anyone you come into contact with regularly that you would like to thank.  You can thank them by simply writing an unexpected note or e-mail, or by attaching a small gift like a box of chocolates or flowers or anything they might like.

We have been doing this for several years now, and it has become one of my favorite traditions!  I love this exercise because it is being done out of sincere gratitude, not obligation.  The recipient is usually not expecting anything, so they are usually very appreciative of the gesture.  It is a win-win situation on both sides.  We all love to feel appreciated, and it’s a great feeling to know your small gesture brightened someone’s day.

During the next 7 days, I am going to choose at least one person a day to thank.  Help me spread the gratitude and love this week by playing along with Cheryl Richardson’s “Thank You” game!  Who are you going to thank this week?

My Favorite Mantra…

This week has been crazy busy for my family with the start of school, hosting our annual back-to-school ice cream party for the neighborhood kids, and preparing for the upcoming 4-H fair that my kids are involved in this weekend.  With all the fun and excitement going on this week, my house is a disaster and I have fallen behind in my usual weekly obligations (including my weekly blog post).  In lieu of writing a long post this week, I would love to share with you one of my favorite mantras.  I am constantly reminding myself of this, but this week it seems particularly appropriate.  Breathe mantra

Whenever I say this to myself, I always feel instantly better.  I have discovered that having complete trust in God and the universe IS the way to inner peace and the biggest stress reliever there is!

Have a great Labor Day weekend!!  Enjoy!! 🙂

Everything is Happening as it Should Be

This quote from Cheryl Richardson always makes me feel better when I am feeling stressed or anxious.  My 11-year-old daughter hasn’t been feeling well for over a month, so much of my focus has been on that lately, and sometimes worry starts to take over.  As I work with her doctor to try to figure out what is going on with her, I remind myself that “everything is happening exactly as it should be,” and I instantly feel better.  This quote brings me immense comfort.  I know it is the truth, and I know that everything will work out just fine in the end.  When I look back on my life, I find that all of the difficult situations turned out to be great blessings, even if they were blessings in the form of lessons.  In the end, I believe every experience is a gift.

I just thought I would share this beautiful quote with all of you because we all experience troubles and worry from time to time.  Whatever troubles you may be experiencing today, just remember that everything is happening exactly as it should be.  I hope this quote comforts you as much as it comforts me.
